HMS Lark (1944) SL  (16th)

    
This the sixteenth ship to carry the name HMS Lark/Larke was a Modified Black Swan (1942), escort vessel (sloop).

Built by Scotts, laid down 05-May-1942, launched 28-Aug-1943 and completed 10-Apr-1944.

On completion took part in Normandy landings operations until Sep-1944. Then it was to the Arctic for Russian convoy escort. Sank U-425 on 17-Feb-1945 but was herself attacked by U-968 and torpedoed. Severely damaged she was towed to Kola Inlet and beached. The hull was stripped of all stores, spares and some main machinery. The remaining hulk was handed over to the Russians 13-Jun-1945 for disposal.

Won the Battle Honours: Normandy 1944, English Channel 1944, North Sea 1944 and Arctic 1944-45.
