Description |
Martinique, an island in the West Indies was occupied by the French, and
occupied a strategic position in the island group. A British naval force left Plymouth Oct-1761 and escorted military forces tasked with taking and occupying Martinique. The island's capital Port Royal, surrendered 10-Feb-1761. The naval force also destroyed 14 French privateers. Soon after the fall of Martinique - St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada were also taken.
