This the first ship to carry the name HMS Modeste was a third rate, 64-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Originally French, 158ft 6in long, 44ft 6in wide and of 1,357 tons builders measurement. Armed with 26 x 24pdr, 28 x 12pdr and 10 x 6pdr guns.

Captured at Lagos 18-Aug-1759.

Used for harbour service from Aug-1778.

Broken up Aug-1800.

Won the Battle Honour: Martinique 1762.
