HMS Rainbow (1586) (1st)

This the first ship to carry the name HMS Rainbow was a
26-gun, galleon. Built at Deptford, launched 1586, of 384 tons builders measurement (bm), armed with 6 x 34pdr, 12 x 18pdr, 7 x 9pdr and 1 x 6pdr guns. Rebuilt first 1602, then 1617 as 548 tons bm and 64-guns. Sunk 1680 as a breakwater at Sheerness. Won the Battle Honours: Armada 1588, Cadiz 1596, Portland 1653, Gabbard 1653, Scheveningen 1653, Lowestoft 1665, Four Days' Battle 1666, Orfordness 1666, Sole Bay 1672, Schooneveld 1673 and Texel 1673.
