Honour - CADIZ 1596 |
||||
Description |
Cadiz being the port to which the Spanish treasure ships sailed, was one of
the wealthiest places in Europe. In 1596 an English Fleet under the Earle of Essex & Lord Howard of Effingham replicated Drake's earlier attack of 1587. They sacked Cadiz & captured most of the Spanish ships in harbour. Prize money was valued at 12 million Ducats. In addition to the navy ships listed, 63 merchant ships were also awarded the battle honour. |
