This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Rainbow was the name ship of a class of four submarines.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, launched 14-May-1930.

Believed lost in collision with Italian M/V Antonietta Costa 04-Oct-1940 while attacking a convoy.

Formally declared lost 19-Oct-1940.
