This the eleventh ship to carry the name HMS Mohawk was a
Tribal Class, destroyer. Built by Thornycroft, launched 05-Oct-1937, commissioned 07-Sep-1938. At the start of WW2 was with the Home Fleet. In Jun-1939 was bombed and damaged in the Firth of Forth. Jun-1940 went to the Mediterranean with Nubian. Where in Jul-1940 was in action off Calabria. Further action followed off Crete Aug/Sep-1940. Took part in the Taranto raid Nov-1940. Then spent time in the Aegean end-1940/ start-1941. Took part in the Battle of Cape Matapan as part of the 1st Battle Squadron's screen. On 16-Apr-1941 while part of Force K, destroyed an Italian convoy of 5 ships, which was being escorted by 3 Italian destroyers. But the Italian destroyer Tarigo, torpedoed Mohawk, and was later sunk by HMS Janus. Won the Battle Honours: Norway 1940, Calabria 1940, Libya 1940, Mediterranean 1940-41, Matapan 1941, Sfax 1941 and Malta Convoys 1941.
