This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Vanguard was a third rate, 78-gun ship-of-the-line.

Built at Pembroke Dock, launched 25-Aug-1835, 190ft long, 57ft wide and of 2,609 tons builders measurement.

Took part in the Royal Fleet Review 1845.

Renamed HMS Ajax 20-Oct-1867.   

Broken up at Chatham Jun-1875.

Won the Battle Honour: Syria 1840.
