This the fifth vessel to carry the name HMS Vanguard was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Deptford Dockyard, launched 03-Mar-1787, 168ft long, 47ft wide, and of 1,664 tons builders measurement.

Reduced to a prison ship Dec-1812.

Used as a powder hulk from Sep-1814.

Broken up at Portsmouth Sep-1821.

Won the Battle Honour: Nile 1798.
