HMS Swiftsure (1787)  (5th)
3rd Rate 74-gun 

    
This the fifth HMS Swiftsure was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Deptford, launched 04-Apr-1787, 169ft long, 47ft wide, and of 1,612 tons builders measurement.

Captured in the Mediterranean by the French 24-Jun-1801.

Recaptured at Trafalgar, (see: Fleets after the Battle) and renamed HMS Irresistible, as her successor the sixth HMS Swiftsure had already been commissioned, and was also at the battle on the British side.

Later used as a prison ship.

Broken up Jan-1816 at Chatham.

Won the Battle Honours: Nile 1798, Egypt 1801 and Trafalgar 1805.
