This the ninth ship to carry the name HMS Swiftsure, was a Cruiser. Built by Vickers Armstrong on the Tyne, laid down 22-Nov-1941, launched 04-Feb-1943, and commissioned 22-Jun-1944. On completion joined the Home Fleet. Then late in 1944 went to the Eastern Fleet, and in Nov-1944 joined the British Pacific Fleet. Took part in the Okinawa campaign Mar/May-1945. Then Jun-1945 covered a carrier raid on Truk. as part of Task Force 111.2 including shore bombardment of the island. Aug-1945 with this group, took the Japanese surrender of Hong Kong. Served as Flagship 4th Cruiser Squadron at the East Indies 1946. Returned to the UK and into reserve 1946-49. Refitted 1949-50. Served with the Home Fleet 1950-53. Appeared at the Coronation Review 1953. On 16-Sep-1953 collided with the destroyer HMS Diamond, 60 miles off Iceland. After repairs, again went into reserve 1953-55. Refitted at Immingham 1955, then laid up at the Gareloch 1955-56. Modernisation at Chatham began 1956 but were abandoned 1960. Arrived at Inverkeithing 17-Oct-1962 for breaking up. Won the Battle Honour: Okinawa 1945.
