HMS Irresistible (1805)  (2nd)
3rd Rate 74-gun

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Irresistible was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Originally launched as HMS Swiftsure, 169ft long, 47ft wide and of 1,612 tons builders measurement. Built by Wells of Deptford.

Captured by the French in the Mediterranean 24-Jun-1801.

Recaptured at Trafalgar 21-Oct-1805, (see: Fleets after the Battle) and renamed HMS Irresistible, as her successor the sixth HMS Swiftsure had already been commissioned, and was also at the battle on the British side.

Later used as a prison ship.

Broken up Jan-1816 at Chatham.
