HMS Quail (1943) DD  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Quail was a Q Class, destroyer.

Built by Hawthorn Leslie, laid down 30-Sep-1941, launched 01-Jun-1942, and commissioned 07-Jan-1943.

On commissioning served in the Mediterranean. Then early 1943 to South Africa for a short time.

Back to the Mediterranean for the Sicily and Salerno landings.

16-Nov-1943 struck a mine off the entrance to Bari, in the Adriatic, had her stern blown off but remained afloat.

Began to be towed to Taranto, but foundered under tow 18-Jun-1944.

Won the Battle Honours: Sicily 1943, Salerno 1943 and Mediterranean 1943.
