HMS Newcastle (1978) DG  (8th)

    
This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Newcastle was a Type 42 Destroyer.

Built by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders, launched 24-Apr-1975 and commissioned in 1978.

During her service she was heavily involved in counter drug operations and had many successful 'busts'. 

In 1998 she visited Montserrat to assist the population recover from the devastation of a nearby volcanic eruption.

Following this in 1999, her ships company was recalled to duty on Boxing day to escort HMS Invincible during deployment in the Gulf/Kosovo conflict.

Decommissioned 01-Feb-2005.
