This the fifteenth ship to carry the name HMS Garland was a G
Class, destroyer. Built by Fairfield, laid down 22-Aug-1934, launched 24-Aug-1935, and commissioned 03-Mar-1936. At the start of WW2 was with the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean. Transferred to Poland 03-May-1940 while at Malta. Served in the Eastern Mediterranean and Greece. Returned to the UK 03-Sep-1940 for duty in the Channel with the Polish Flotilla. Then to the Clyde to Western Approaches Command. Spent most 1941 to 1944 on Atlantic and Arctic convoy escort. Apr-1944 back to the Mediterranean, and from late 1944 to May-1945 based at Gibraltar. Returned to Royal Navy 1947, then sold to the Netherlands Dec-1947 and renamed Marnix. Broken up 10-Apr-1943 at Antwerp. Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1940-43, Arctic 1942 and Mediterranean 1944.
