HMS Defence (1763)  (2nd)
3rd Rate 74-gun 

    
This the second ship to carry the name HMS Defence was a third rate, 74-gun ship-of-the-line.

Built at Plymouth Dockyard, launched 31-Mar-1763, 168ft 6in long, 47ft wide and of 1,603 tons builders measurement.

Fought at the battle of Trafalgar where she suffered light damage with 7 of her crew killed and 29 wounded. (see: Fleets after the Battle).

Wrecked on the coast of Jutland 24-Dec-1811.

Won the Battle Honours: St. Vincent 1780, First of June 1794, Nile 1798, Copenhagen 1801 and Trafalgar 1805.
