HMS Ariadne (1902) CC  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Ariadne was a 1st Class, Protected Cruiser.

Built by Thomson of Clydebank, laid down 29-Oct-1896, launched 22-Apr-1898, and completed 05-Jun-1902.

On completion went to the America & West Indies Station as Flagship 1902-05, then returned to the UK and went into reserve at Portsmouth 1905-09. Joined the 4th Division 1909-11 and the 3rd Fleet 1912-13.

Served as Stokers' Training Ship, Portsmouth 1913-15 and Devonport 1915-16.

Converted to a Minelayer 1916-17, and used in this capacity 1917.

Sunk 26-Jul-1917 by UC-65 off Beachy Head.
