Honour - St. Lucia 1778 |
||||
Description |
St. Lucia is one of the smaller Windward Group of islands in the West
Indies. A British Expeditionary force had landed to capture the island from the French. The troops were supported by a small squadron which was reinforced on 14-Dec by ships from the North America Station. A French force had also arrived at the same time and included 7,000 troops to retake the island. The French fleet was repulsed and withdrew to land the troops at an unprotected anchorage further north. But within a month the French governor had surrendered and the island occupied by the British.
