Honour - SOUTH AFRICA 1899-1900 |
||||
Description |
Following the discovery of gold on the Rand, relations between Britain and
the Boers worsened until war began on 11-Oct-1899. The award was made to those ships which landed a naval brigade. They served mainly as gunners and their guns which were heavier than the Boers, played a significant part in the war. Other ships which also served in South Africa but did not land a brigade did not qualify for the honour.
