This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Doris was a 2nd
Class, Protected Cruiser. Built by NC&A of Barrow, laid down 29-Aug-1894, launched 03-Mar-1896 and completed 18-Nov-1897. On completion served as Flagship at the Cape Station 1897-1901. Returned to the UK at Devonport 1901-02, joined the Channel Squadron 1902-04, attached to the Atlantic Battle Squadron 1905. Into reserve at Devonport 1906-08. Joined the Atlantic battle Squadron again 1909-11, the 3rd Fleet 1912-14. Served with the 11th Cruiser Squadron West Coast of Ireland Coast patrol 1914. To the East Indies and Egypt 1914-15, the Dardanelles 1915-16, the Mediterranean 1916-17. East Indies 1917-18. Sold at Bombay 1919. Gained the Battle Honours : South Africa 1899-1900, Dardanelles 1915-16.
