HMS Russell (1903) BB  (4th)

    
This the fourth HMS Russell was one of six Duncan Class battleships.

Built by Palmer of Jarrow, laid down Mar-1899, launched 19-Feb-1901 and completed Feb-1903. 

She served with the Mediterranean Fleet from 1903-04, then the Home, Channel and Atlantic Fleets until 1909. When she returned to the Mediterranean until 1912, after which it was back to the Home Fleet.

In 1914 she became Flagship of the 6th Battle Squadron in the Grand Fleet. In November 1914 she transferred to the Channel Fleet and took part in bombardments of the Belgian coast, including the U-boat pens at Zeebrugge. 

In November 1915 she went to the Mediterranean and was mined and sunk off Malta on 27-April-1916.

Won the Battle Honours: Belgian Coast 1914 and Dardanelles 1915-16.
