This the first HMS Russell was a second rate, two deck, 80/72-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Portsmouth Dockyard, launched 03-Jun-1692, 155ft 6in long on the deck, 128ft 6in long at the keel, 41ft 6in wide, 17ft 2in depth in the hold, and of 1,177 tons builders measurement (bm).

She had an establishment of 80-guns and 500 men in time of war in home waters, or 72-guns and 255 men in peace or war overseas.

Rebuilt at Deptford Dockyard 1735, wit an increased tonnage of 1,350 tons bm.

Sunk as a breakwater at Sheerness 1762.
