This the first ship to carry the name HMS Northumberland was a third rate,
70-gun ship-of-the-line.
Built by Bailey of Bristol, launched 1679, 152ft long, 40ft 6in wide, and of 1,041 tons builders measurement. Rebuilt at Chatham 1701. Wrecked 27-Nov-1703 on the Goodwin Sands. Won the Battle Honours: Barfleur 1692 and Vigo 1702.
