This
HMS Mars the seventh to carry the name, was one of nine Majestic
Class battleships.
Built by Laird Shipbuilders, laid down Jun-1894, launched 03-Mar-1896 and completed Jun-1897. She served initially in the Mediterranean Fleet from 1897-1905, followed by a refit in which she was fitted with the first oil-burning machinery in a battleship. After refit she went to the Channel, Reserve and Home Fleets until1914, when she went to the Humber. In late 1915 her turrets were removed for use in a monitor and Mars went to the Mediterranean as a trooper. She paid off in 1916 and became a depot ship at Invergordon. Sold 09-May-1921 for breaking up. Won the Battle Honour: Dardanelles 1915-16.
