This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Mars was a second rate, 80-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, launched 01-Jul-1848, having spent nine years on the stocks, 190ft long, 56ft 6in wide, of 2,576 tons builders measurement (bm), and displacing 3,482 tons. Armed with 12 x 8in, and 68 x 32pdr guns.

Conversion to a screw ship completed 23-Nov-1855.

Loaned as a training ship 13-May-1869.

Sold 10-Jun-1929.
