HMS Kipling (1939) DD  (1st)

    
This the only ship to carry the name HMS Kipling was a K Class, destroyer.

Built by Yarrow, laid down 20-Oct-1937, launched 19-Jan-1939, and commissioned 12-Dec-1939.

On commissioning joined the Home Fleet, then Apr-1940 it was to the Mediterranean to Force H.

May-1941 assisted with the evacuation of Crete where she was damaged.

Dec-1941 sank U-75.

Mar-1942 took part in the 2nd Battle of Sirte.

With HMS Jackal, Jervis and Lively, 11-May-1942 while in action against Axis convoy routes on the North African coast, was bombed and sunk. Of the four ships, only Jervis escaped.

Won the Battle Honours: Norway 1940, Atlantic 1940, Crete 1941, Mediterranean 1941, Malta Convoys 1941-42, Libya 1941-42 and Sirte 1942.
