This the first ship to carry the name HMS Irresistible was a third rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line.

Built by Barnard of Harwich, launched 06-Dec-1782 168ft long, 47ft wide and of 1,643 tons builders measurement.

Broken up Sep-1806.

Won the Battle Honours: Martinique 1794, Groix Island 1795 and St. Vincent 1797.
