This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Grafton was a destroyer.
Built by Thorneycroft, laid down 30-Aug-1934, launched 18-Sep-1935, and commissioned 20-Mar-1936. At the start of WW2 was with the 1st Destroyer Flotilla in home waters. Did not take part in the Norwegian Campaign as she was undergoing refit. May-1940 took part in the evacuations from France and Belgium. Was torpedoed 29-May-1940 by U-69 off Dunkirk while returning fully loaded with troops. Her back was broken and bows blown off. After survivors had been taken off the wreck was torpedoed and sunk by HMS Ivanhoe. Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939, Dunkirk 1940.
