Hector Class (1864) BB

This class of ironclads were ordered before HMS Warrior had been to sea, and there was still considerable uncertainty about the future of ironclads.
So instead of repeating the expensive Warrior type, this class of two were ordered as follow-on's from Defence Class in the interests of economy.

They were similar to Defence and Resistance except that the Ram bow was omitted.

Because of their limited size, they were only suitable for service in home waters.
