This the second ship to carry the name HMS Wakeful was a W
Class (1943), destroyer leader. As destroyer leader she had slightly
reduced armament to allow the increased complement and working space
needed to control a flotilla. Built by Fairfield, laid down 03-Jun-1942, launched 30-Jun-1943, and commissioned 17-Feb-1944. On commissioning formed part of the 27th Destroyer Flotilla. May-1944 operations for carrier raids off Norway. To the Channel Jun-1944 for the Normandy landings. Followed Aug-1944 with Arctic convoy duty. Then Nov-1944 to the Indian Ocean as part of the 27th Destroyer Flotilla. Moving to the British Pacific Fleet, Jan-1945 for the remainder of the war. Converted to a Type 15 frigate 1953. Sold 10-Jun-1971 and broken up at Inverkeithing. Won the Battle Honours: North Sea 1944 and East Indies 1944.
