Ordered
as the 9th Emergency Flotilla, the were a repeat of the U Class ships. On completion they formed the 27th Destroyer Flotilla, and were intended for service in the Eastern and British Pacific Fleets. Those commissioned earlier saw service in Mediterranean, Arctic, Normandy and North Sea waters. But by November 1944 all except Wizard (undergoing repairs), were with the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean. In January 1945 thy moved to the Pacific and remained with the British Pacific Fleet until war ended. After the war all remained in service, with five being transferred to other navies in the 1950's, the other three continued in Royal Navy service until the late 1960's.
