HMS Scorpion (1943) DD  (10th)

    
This the tenth ship to carry the name HMS Scorpion was an S Class, destroyer.

Built by Cammell Laird, laid down 19-Jun-1941, launched 26-Aug-1942, and commissioned 11-May-1943.

26-Dec-1943 while screening HMS Duke of York as distance escort to Russian convoy JW55B, saw action with the German ship Scharnhorst

1944 continued with offensive carrier sweeps off the Norwegian coast. Then Jun-1944 operations as part of the Normandy landings.

After this it was back to Arctic duty, with Russian convoy escort alternating with offensive carrier operations until the end of the war.

Sold 01-Oct-1945 to the Dutch Navy and renamed Kortenaer.

Arrived at Ghent 18-Jul-1963 for breaking up.

Won the Battle Honours: Arctic 1943-45, North Cape 1943 and Normandy 1944.
