This the fifth HMS Royal Oak was built as a class of one. Constructed at Chatham Dockyard, laid down in 1860, launched 10-Sep-1862. Royal Oak had only a short career and served most of her time in the Mediterranean, and was present at the opening of the Suez canal in 1869. She handled well under both sail and steam. She paid off in 1871 and was laid up as an economy measure. Sold 30-Sep-1885.
