This the third ship to carry the name HMS Royal Oak was a third
rate, 74-gun, ship-of-the-line. Built at Deptford Dockyard, launched 13-Nov-1769, 168ft 6in long, 47ft wide and of 1,606 tons builders measurement. Used as a prison ship, from Nov-1796. Renamed HMS Assistance, 25-Oct-1805. Broken up Nov-1815. Won the Battle Honour: Chesapeake 1781 and The Saints 1782.
