This the second ship to carry the name HMS Pakenham was the P
Class, destroyer leader. As destroyer leader she had slightly reduced
armament to allow the increased complement and working space needed to
control a flotilla. Built by Hawthorn Leslie, laid down 06-Feb-1940, launched 28-Jan-1941, and commissioned 04-Feb-1942. To the Mediterranean for Malta convoy escort. Early-1943 it was back to the Indian Ocean for a short spell then back again to the Mediterranean. 10-Apr-1943 attacked an Italian convoy escorted by 4 torpedo boats, which torpedoed her. Won the Battle Honours: Diego Suarez 1942 and Mediterranean 1942-43.
