HMS Janus (1939) DD  (6th)

    
This the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Janus was a J Class, destroyer.

Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 29-Sep-1937, launched 10-Nov-1938, and commissioned 05-Aug-1939.

On completion joined the 7th Destroyer Flotilla based on the Humber.

At the start of WW2 was renumbered the 5th Flotilla.

Took part in the Norwegian campaign, then moved to Plymouth for Channel patrols.

To the Mediterranean Jun-1940, where, 09-Jun-1940 was badly damaged by French destroyers.

On 23-Jan-1944 at Anzio torpedoed by aircraft and sunk.

Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939, Norway 1940, Libya 1940, Calabria 1940, Mediterranean 1940-44, Matapan 1941, Sfax 1941, Crete 1941, Malta Convoys 1941, Anzio 1944, Adriatic 1944.
