This the fifteenth ship to carry the name HMS Hunter was an H
Class
destroyer. Built by Swan Hunter, laid down 26-Mar-1935, launched 25-Feb-1936, and commissioned 20-Sep-1936. On commissioning, joined the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean, and was there at the start of WW2. Sent initially to the South Atlantic, then early 1940 to home waters. Took part in the Norwegian campaign, including the 1st Battle of Narvik, 10-Apr-1940, where she was badly damaged by gunfire, then rammed and sunk by Hotspur. Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-40 and Narvik 1940.
