This the first ship to carry the name HMS Hampshire was a 46-gun, small ship.

Built at Deptford, launched Apr-1653, 118ft long, 29ft 9in wide and of 479 tons builders measurement.

Rebuilt 1686 at Deptford.

Sunk in action against French ship Pelican, in Hudson's Bay, 26-Aug-1697.

Won the Battle Honours: Gabbard 1653, Santa Cruz 1657, Lowestoft 1665, Four Days' Battle 1666, Orfordness 1666, Schooneveld 1673 and Texel 1673.
