This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Galatea was a 2nd
Class Armoured Cruiser. Built by Napier of Glasgow, laid down 21-Apr-1885, launched 10-Mar-1887, and completed Mar-1889. On completion served at Portsmouth from 1889-90, then the Channel Squadron 1890-92. back to Portsmouth 1892-93. Coast Guard duty at Queensferry lasted 1893-95, followed by Coast Guard duty at Hull, 1895-1903. Final service was at Chatham 1904. Sold 04-Apr-1905.
