HMS Drake (1903) CC  (17th)

    
This the seventeenth ship to carry the name HMS Drake was the name ship of a class of four Armoured Cruisers.

Built at Pembroke Dock laid down 24-Apr-1889, launched 05-Mar-1901 and completed 13-Jan-1903.

On completion served with the Channel Cruiser Squadron 1903-04, then Flagship of the 2nd Cruiser Squadron,  Atlantic Fleet 1905-08. Flagship 1st Cruiser Squadron, Channel Fleet 1908-10. Then with the 5th Cruiser Squadron Atlantic Fleet 1901-11.

Out to Flagship Australia Station 1911-13. 2nd Fleet 1913-14,

Following the outbreak of WW1, 6th Cruiser Squadron Grand Fleet 1914-15. Refitted late 1915, then to the North America & West Indies Station as Atlantic convoy escort 1916-17.

Torpedoed and sunk by U-70 off Rathlin Island 02-Oct-1917.
