HMS Charybdis (1894) CC  (4th)

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Charybdis was a 2nd Class, Protected Cruiser.

Built at Sheerness Dockyard, laid won 1891, launched 15-Jun-1893, and completed Oct-1894.

On completion remained at Chatham in reserve 1894-95, joined the 'Flying Squadron' 1896, then the Channel Fleet 1896-98. Back into reserve at Devonport 1898-1900. To the America & West Indies Station 1900-05. Returned to the UK and reserve at Chatham 1905-07, then used for trooping duties 1907-08.

Joined the 3rd Fleet at the Nore 1908-10 and Devonport 1911-14.

Served as Flagship 12th Cruiser Squadron Western Channel 1914-15. Badly damaged in a collision 09-Jan-1915 and laid up at Bermuda 1915-18.

Converted to a cargo carrier Mar-1918 and used as one until paid off Dec-1919.

Sold 27-Jan-1922 at Bermuda.

Resold Oct-1923 and broken up in Holland.
