HMS Challenger (1904) CC  (5th)

    
This the fifth ship to carry the name HMS Challenger was the name ship of a class of two 2nd Class, Protected Cruisers.

Built at Chatham Dockyard, laid down 01-Dec-1900, launched 27-May-1902 and completed 03-May-1904.

On completion went to the Australia Station 1904-12. Returned to the UK and joined the 3rd Fleet at Devonport 1912-14. Then the 9th Cruiser Squadron based at Portland. Detached to West Africa for the Cameroons Campaign 1914-15. Continued to the East Africa Station 1915-19, during which she took part in the bombardment of Dar-es-Salaam 13-Jun-1915.

Returned to the UK 191 and paid off at Portsmouth.

Sold 1920.

Won the Battle Honour: Cameroons 1914.
