Wooden Screw Corvette 26-gun

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Challenger was a 26-gun,  wooden screw corvette.

Built at Woolwich Dockyard, launched 13-Feb-1858, 200ft long, 40ft 6in wide, of 1,462 tons builders measurement and displacing 2,306 tons. Armed with 20 x 8in and 2 x 6pdr guns.

Used as a Survey ship from 1872 and reduced to 4-guns.

Reduced to a hulk 1880.

Sold 06-Jan-1920.
