This the eighth ship to carry the name Argus is an Aviation Training Ship and Primary Casualty Receiving Station..

Originally the Merchant roll-on-roll-off container ship Contender Bezant. Built by Breda of Venice, launched 1981, 574ft 6in long, 99ft 8in wide and displacing 11,445 tons.

Taken up from trade during the Falklands War 1982, then bought 1984. Armed with 4 x 30mm guns, able to operate 6 x helicopters, and displacing 18,280 tons full load.

Renamed RFA Argus 25-Mar-1987.

Used as a primary casualty receiving ship during the first Gulf war 1990-91.

Continues in service Oct-2005.

Won the Battle Honour: Kuwait 1991.
