|
This the first ship to carry the name HMS Zulu was a Tribal
Class, torpedo boat destroyer. Built by Hawthorne Leslie, laid down 18-Aug-1908, launched 16-Sep-09 and completed Mar-1910. Disabled 08-Nov-1916, by a mine in the Strait of Dover, with her stern wrecked. The intact forward part of Zulu was later joined to the stern of her sister ship HMS Nubian. (Nubian's forward half had been wrecked 27-Oct-1916 by a torpedo fired from a German destroyer.) The new ship was renamed HMS Zubian and launched at Chatham Dockyard 1917. Won the Battle Honour: Belgian Coast 1915-16.
