This the second ship to carry the name HMS Wren was a Modified
Black Swan (1942), escort vessel (sloop). Built by Denny, laid down 27-Feb-1941, launched 11-Aug-1942 and completed 04-Feb-1943. On completion joined the 2nd Escort group for convoy escort duty on the Gibraltar rout and North Atlantic until Jun-1943. Then went to the Bay of Biscay for offensive operations in Operation Musketry. Sank U-449 on 24-Jun and U-504 on 30-Jul. The operation continued until Sep-1943, and refit at Avonmouth followed until Dec-1943. Convoy escort work in the North Atlantic followed until Mar-1944, and was followed by a Russian convoy run. After this it was back to the North Atlantic and sank U-473 on 05-May-1944. Duty in support of the Normandy landings continued during Jun-1944 after which it was more support work when U-608 was sunk 09-Aug-1944. Refitted on the Humber Oct-1944 to Jan-1945. On completion work on the Western Approaches followed until the end of the war in Europe, May-1945. Refit at Cardiff and Rosyth to prepare her for transfer to the Pacific was completed Jun-1945, and with the end of the war, instead went to the Persian Gulf at the end of 1946. Service there continued until 1955 when she returned to the UK to be paid off into reserve. Shortly after she was put up for disposal and arrived at Rosyth 02-Feb-1956 for breaking up. Won the Battle Honours: Atlantic 1939-45, Norway 1940, Biscay 1943-44, Normandy 1944 and Arctic 1944.
