This the eighth ship to carry the name HMS Vigilant was a wooden,
paddle, despatch vessel. Built at Devonport Dockyard, launched 17-Feb-1871, of 835 tons builders measurement, displacing 1,000 tons. Sold in Hong Kong, 10-Feb-1920.
