This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Venus was a 2nd
Class, cruiser. Built by Fairfield of Govan, laid down 28-Jun-1894, launched 05-Sep-1895, and completed 09-Nov-1897. On completion went to the Mediterranean 1897-1901, then returned to the UK and refit at Chatham. The Coast Guard Ship, Southampton 1903-04, back to the Mediterranean 1905-07. Then the Atlantic battle Squadron 1907-11. Served as a depot ship 1911-12, then joined the 3rd Fleet 1913-14. The West Coast of Ireland Coast Patrol 1914-15, then to the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf 1915-16. On to the China Station 1916-17 and the East Indies Station 1917-19. Sold 22-Sep-1921 and broken up in Germany.
