This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Urchin was a U
Class (1943), destroyer. Built by Vickers Armstrong, of Barrow, laid down 28-Mar-1942, launched 08-Mar-1943, and commissioned 24-Sep-1943. To the Mediterranean and took part in the Anzio landings Jan-1944. Normandy landing operations Jun-1944. Then to the Adriatic, and early 1945 to the Eastern Fleet in the East Indies. Finally on to the British Pacific Fleet until the Japanese surrender. Converted to a Type 15 frigate 1952-54 with the pennant number F196. Went into reserve Nov-1956. Used as a training hip Dec-1957. Returned to reserve 1964. Stern used to repair HMS Ulster 1966. Arrived at Troon 06-Aug-1967 for breaking up. Won the Battle Honours: Anzio1944, Mediterranean 1944, Normandy 1944, Adriatic 1944, and Okinawa 1945.
