HMS Spartan (1892) CC  (4th) 

    
This the fourth ship to carry the name HMS Spartan a second class cruiser.

Built by Armstrong Mitchell of Elswick, laid down Dec-1889, launched 25-Feb-1891 and completed 1892.

On completion went into reserve at Devonport 1892-93. Then to the Mediterranean 1894-95, China Station 1895-97. Returned to the UK And reserve at Devonport 1897-1903.

Served as RNR Drill Ship, Holyhead 1903-05, then harbour service 1906, and tender to HMS Defiance at Devonport from 1907. Renamed HMS Defiance II Aug-1921.

Sold 26-Jun-1931.
